William Lu
Contemporary Director, Performance Team Coach
William Lü began his training at Chapman University under the direction of Cyrus Parker-Jeannette and has worked with renowned choreographers David Parsons, Doug Varone, Robert Battle, Tiffany Billings, Cyrus Parker Jeannette, Sean Greene, Nancy Dickson-Lewis, Jenny Backhaus and Amy Bates.
Upon his graduation from Chapman University, he received the Fannie Kalis Award for his contribution in dance. Lü is a guest teacher at Torrance Cultural Arts Center, Madrona Dance School of Spectrum Dance Theatre in Seattle, Northern California Dance Conservatory, Mt. San Antonio College and other regional dance schools and colleges.
He received national recognition when he received the Engman Award for his choreographic work Mon Prison Ma Chambre at Palm Desert's 2002 Dance Under the Stars Choreography Festival. His work Jolly Lolly Holiday was presented in 2003 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and broadcast live on KCET. Lü is currently a member of Backhausdance and has been performing with the company since its inception in 2003.
His credits include a lead in Yo-Yo Ma's music video and Tiffany Billings' Idiosyncrasy. William was named "Best Male Dancers of 2004" by the Beverly Hills Outlook and is the 2006 Lester Horton Award recipient for his performance in Jenny Backhaus' Exit.
